Product types reference
This page explains when to use simple vs variant products and how sale fields differ.
From the Stock tab
- Simple Product (no options): one product with no color or size. Quantity is Available Quantity.
- Product with Variants: colors and sizes. Quantity comes only from the sum of matrix cells.
- Track Stock: on = manage quantities; off = product stays always available.
- Hide When Out of Stock: hides the product from customers when quantity reaches 0.
From General — General Information
- Product Status: Draft or Published (Visible to Customers).
- Product Type: list depends on the selected category (example: clothing / shoes / accessories may unlock extra size fields).
- Sale Type:
- Retail
- Wholesale
- Retail & Wholesale (then wholesale threshold and wholesale price settings appear in Pricing)
From Pricing — Pricing Strategy
- Price: base price.
- Sale Price: discounted selling price shown to customers.
- Cost Price: internal margin cost; not shown as the customer selling price.
- Final price for customer: reflects sale price and active automatic discounts when shown.
Selection rule
Use Simple Product (no options) unless the customer must pick an option before buying. For bundles use the Bundles guides, not this stock type.
