Create a product with variants

Primary path

1. Open Add Product (/dashboard/products/add).
2. On the General tab fill Product Title and set Product Status to Published (Visible to Customers).
3. On the Pricing tab enter Price (and optional Sale Price).
4. On the Stock tab:
   • Enable Track Stock.
   • Choose Product with Variants (not Simple Product (no options)).
   • Add colors and sizes until the options matrix is created.
5. Enter quantity in each color × size cell. Do not enter one total Available Quantity for a variant product.
6. Optional: enable Hide When Out of Stock.
7. Click Add Product.
8. Open the storefront product page and test choosing color or size before add-to-cart.

Expected result

The storefront shows option selectors before add-to-cart. In the dashboard the calculated total quantity is the sum of matrix cells.

Variant stock rules

• You cannot enter one total stock quantity when using colors and sizes.
• Total quantity = sum of all option cell quantities.
• After creation, edit quantities from Stock Management using Edit Stock.

Common mistakes

• Leaving Simple Product (no options) selected while adding colors: they are not treated as variants.
• Leaving matrix cells empty then selling: those options show unavailable or zero quantity.
• Publishing without testing the storefront: confirm the color/size picker appears for customers.
